The violence in Oakland resulted exclusively from the actions of the Oakland Police and Mayor Jean Quan.  This obscenity was solely and exclusively a police riot. It was a repeat of the bloody police riots ordered by Mayor Richard Daley during the Democratic Convention of 1968 and the obscene police invasion ordered by Governor Nelson Rockefeller at the Attica Prison riot that resulted is so many deaths. Mayor  Quan proudly took full responsibility for the unconstitutional war she ordered against peaceful protestors who were exercising their right to petition their government. She proudly commended the police for “…showing restraint and restoring order to the city.”

The next day, as the switchboard in the mayor’s office lit up with angry calls from around the world and the Mayor’s email box filled with equally angry messages condemning her actions and the entire police actions of the previous night, suddenly Mayor Quan began walking her statements back and issuing orders to her Police Department to lay off the protestors, promising to allow the Occupy movement back in the park and proposed meetings between herself and any Occupy groups or people who wanted to meet with her. She also promised the full coöperation of all the departments of the City of Oakland to accommodate the Occupy protestors in solving the various sanitation, mobile restrooms, and general health and safety issues.

It seems to me that she could carry out this long before she ordered the police riot and nearly killed Scott Collins and So horribly wounded the girl who took the “non-lethal” rubber bullet to the jaw. Her apologies ring just a bit hollow in the wake of her police riot that brutally beat and attempted to kill many non-violent protesters. The most surprising thing about all of this is that Jean Quan was the target of gross Oakland police misconduct when she was organizing the peaceful protests in the wake of the sentencing of the officer responsible for Grant killing at the BART station.

 

This is not the United States of America that has a Constitution and a Bill of Rights. Bush 2 began the dismantling of the Constitution and the Bill of Rights under the justification of the need for “security”.  Obama a/k/a Bush on steroids, has nearly completed the shredding the Constitution and the Bill of Rights in the name of “security”.  All of this in the wake of the 9/11 destruction of the World Trade Center that the FBI knew about weeks in advance, Bush 2 received warning about in detail the day before it happened and nobody did anything. It was almost like they wanted it to happen so that they would have an excuse to dismantle the Constitution and the Bill of Rights and turn the governance of the country into an oligarchic form of governance. That is a very disturbing thought to close upon. As Thomas Jefferson said, “Those who would give up their rights to achieve security, deserve neither.”
