Our Internet, Not Theirs

One of these days, enough people in the United States are going to realize that neoliberal capitalism was the biggest con job ever worked on so many people for the benefit of so few. The train has long since left the station for reining corporate United States in and we are in grave danger of becoming a country governed by corporation. The sub-plot of "Robocop" doesn't look so ridiculous anymore. In fact, it looks terrifyingly realistic and probable unless something changes.
The latest raid on society's interest is the corporate raid on the internet in the form of blocking net neutrality. GRITtv has done an excellent piece on what's at stake and those of us who blog from the left side of the political spectrum need to sit up and take notice. If we fail to stop these attempts to kill net neutrality, we will find that the internet has become the new hate radio, and the voices of reason will be lost in the clamor of the mouthpieces of the right: the corporate whores who use hate as a diversion to keep anyone from focusing or understanding what is being done to them in the world.

You will note that Laura made a point of stating that several of the anti-net neutrality people were invited to participate in the discussion. They all declined. The reason for that is that they prefer to operate in the dark, sleazy backrooms of Washington with their corporate bribes (you know, the "political contributions that buy legislation favorable to the purchaser) to members of Congress to advance their cause. Stepping into the sunlight will kill them as it would any bloodsucker.
